Event Flyer created for the 2012 National Night Out being held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
What is National Night Out? It’s America’s Night Out Against Crime!
The “29th Annual National Night Out” (NNO), a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 7, 2012 (Texas will celebrate on October 2, 2012).
Last year’s National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 37 million people participated in National Night Out 2012.
National Night Out is designed to:
– Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
– Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
– Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
– Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Somebody teamed up with the Nevada State Apartment Association and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) to develop this Event Flyer. The Event Flyer had to briefly describe what “National Night Out” is and who it benefits. Since Somebody worked with the same two entities in 2011’s National Night Out (NNO), the message was easy to get out there for this event and had zero creative blocks (we created the flyer and had ZERO requested changes). Somebody handled the NNO tagline “America’s Night Out Against Crime” by placing it in the most visual area of the flyer (middle left, MOST people begin reading on the left … even if they are just “glancing” through an ad), giving potential attendees the reason “WHY” NNO exists. Along with the headline were several bullet points at the bottom left of the flyer, notating the Nevada State Apartment Associations (NSAA) requirements for participating with potential exhibitors on putting together this event with LVMPD. There was no keyword used, as the Event Flyer was mostly informational and meant to attract attendees and exhibitors, a dual purpose flyer. The design elements used in the flyer came directly from NNO’s website, with the exception of the officer. The LVMPD officer and police car were edited from a photo taken from a reality show and used with permission. We eliminated MOST of the graphic, except for what you see, in Adobe Photoshop. We gave the officer and police car an Outer Glow (85% Opacity; white hue blended in Screen mode) and Inner Glow (70% Opacity; default hue blended in Screen mode as well at 18px). This graphic blended well with the finished product, which was completed in Microsoft Publisher (at the clients request). A Registration and Sponsorship Form accompanied this Event Flyer (you can VIEW the form HERE).
Microsoft Publisher was the primary design tool used, with the exception of the LVMPD officer and police car which were completed in Adobe Photoshop. There were two main fonts used, Helvetica Neue (one of our all-time favorites) and Raleway.
The Event Flyer was distributed throughout the NSAA and LVMPD. The flyer was also made public by several businesses and organizations who work with LVMPD. The main goal of the Event Flyer was to attract public attendance and participation from local businesses as vendors at the event. Despite the scorching temperatures over 4,000 attended the event, which was almost double the anticipated attendance.
